I’m so pissed. My notebook sounds like an old refrigerator, especially when under a load. It seems the GPU/CPU fan is about to die. It’s still covered on the 3 year warranty, but since currently I’m working in a remote place in Indonesia, where the nearest service center about 1500kms away. To make things worse, my scheduled home leave to Jakarta is still 3 months away. The CPU temperature still sits around 40C though, but I don’t know until when this will last.

I want to share my quest finding my first Digital SLR camera. I always has interest in photography, but I kept hold off to buy a DSLR since it was much expensive than regular point and shoot camera. Recently, the price of a DSLR has reached to a price level similar when I bought a digital compact camera few years ago.

The car just got out from the workshop and so far I’m quite satisfied with the output result although it needs slight adjustment on the direction and rotation of the beam. From the photos alone, the difference is HUGE. As you can see in the pictures below, the light spreads evenly, the cutoff is sharp, and does not produce glare.

Finally, the project to retrofit my car with HID projector is almost complete. I’ve been looking to source the parts for more than two years! Back in the year 2006 I wanted to have HID headlights on my car, for looks and function. Searched on the net for the info, especially hidplanet.com and found that to have proper HID setup I need to replace my halogen reflector to HID projector, or I will cause excessive glare to other users on the road.

Whoa, it’s been a while I’m not updating my blog. I just want to share my experience after using ubuntu 8.0.4 64 -bit for over a month. I’m installing ubuntu on my notebook. It’s a Thinkpad T61, with Intel C2D 7300 2.0 Ghz processor, 4 GB ram, Nvidia Quadro NVS 140m, 250 GB hdd etc. It is the easiest installation of OS ever. Most my peripherals and devices are detected correctly. My wireless card, bluetooth, functions keys, etc are working out of the box. Maybe I’m just lucky, when I installing ubuntu on both my friend’s laptop, the wireless is not working out of the box. But it can easily solved by downloading newest drivers. Currently I’m dual booting with Vista x64 SP1.

hh… finally back to Papua. I’m already here one month ago, but I’m busy with work and lazy to update this blog haha. 2 weeks in Jakarta just feels like a dream. I have so many stories to tell, but I don’t know from where to begin. 2957km is the exact distance between where I’m sitting now to the address of my home back in Jakarta. I measured it using a GPS.
First impression when I got here, our main contractor changed their network configuration. They add some internet policy control to control their users to use the internet. I was thinking, ah at last, welcome to the end of slow network connection, I say horray for bandwidth and content management! From what I heard, they ask IT technician from their main head quarter in Japan to set it up the network. But in reality, the internet only good for several days, then it went hell again.

Finally I’m arrived at Jakarta. Gosh, quite a journey. It took me a about 14 hours to get to my home. I’m already arrived at my combo dock to took a boat at 6.30am local time (GMT+9), but the boat just left site at 8am. After a little seasickness It took me 2 hours to get to Babo (small airport) to took a chartered flight and my scheduled departure was 10am, but I just left off at 12.30. It took another 2 hours to get from Babo to Sorong (small town which got commercial airliners).

Finally, after staying for about 172 days in here I’ll be taking my home leave and go back to Jakarta for 2 weeks. But I got strange feeling at the moment, I guess I’m not that much excited as I previously imagined. I even thinking to postpone my leave, but my friends was like “Are you crazy Tes?”. It’s not that I’m not happy or don’t want to go back to Jakarta.
During the first 2-3 months in here I was really excited, can’t wait for that day to come. I was always counting the days, even I got a little program in my iPod touch to calculate exactly how many months, days, hours, minutes to seconds till the day is coming. But after a while, I got really bored and never counts the days. Maybe I just expecting too much from it.
Earlier this week I noticed something different with my internet connection here in my office. Somehow the speed and reliability improved dramatically. I was just thinking, oh, maybe it’s just temporarily glitch, or some other company in another contractor is doing some maintenance work or having problem with their network so there is no bottleneck on the connection. Because its already occurred several times.
UPDATED on 18 April 2008, back to ice age internet.

I found another cool wordpress plugin related to facebook, wordbook. If you have facebook account you can make your blog posts displayed on your mini-feed and displays a summary of your blog on your profile. It even displays thumbnails if your blog post has image(s) in it. Here’s the example how it looks on my facebook profile:

Installation instructions are provided on the wordbook link above.
